About the artist and the artwork
Marc Chagall (1887 - 1985) was a Russian French artist. He practiced a wide variety of art and artistic styles. He was inseparable with his wife of 30 years, Bell Rosenfeld, and his life staggered to a halt when she passed unexpectedly in 1945. Once he began painting again, his art reflected his grief. His artwork pioneered a new world of painting and is still collected and treasured worldwide today.
