Discover an amazing piece of art from the 1800s with this original etching print of William Hogarth's "An Election Entertainment" Plate 1. It has been custom framed and well maintained - and it is in good overall condition with only minor folds & marks to it.

The image was created & designed by William Hogarth (English- 1697-1764). Hogarth was famous for his satirical art & his mission to make art for everyone - not just the elite. This plate is part 1 of a 4 part series on election entertainment. The crowd is drunk, violent, and full of gluttony and bribes at a political banquet. Theres so many details in this print - the Whig candidate for parliament is at the head of the table and is identified as "Sir Commodity Taxem" by the slip of paper being handed to him. The jokes & humor at the expense of the government are endless in this antique print.

It was published in London by G. G. & J. Robins on Paternoster Row on Oct. 8th, 1800. It was engraved by Thomas Cook (English - 1744-1818) who was famous for his engravings of Hogarth's works. This edition predates the Heath edition engraving that came in 1822.

It is custom framed - it does have some scuffs and scratches to the frame. The engraving measures 21" by 17" and with the frame, it measures 24" by 20".

This is a lovely antique print to add to any collection - and it's satire & humor have withstood the test of time.
